These drawings are based on photographs I took in my own community garden. This series, which I call "Ripening" was inspired by a particular visit one day in the spring of 2016. After many April showers, we had an explosion of leafy growth which I experienced as beautiful green shapes and textures throughout the garden. Nothing had bloomed yet, but there was a succulence and anticipation that almost vibrated as I walked among the rows. Then one day, I peeked under the thick canopy of tomato leaves and saw the first blush of orange developing on a stem of grape tomatoes. It makes me smile to think of it. I'm sure I share this feeling of pleasure and exuberance with all my fellow gardeners. These drawings were done in charcoal and colored pencil.
